THUNDER BAY – – It was another beautiful day here in the magical land of Hogwarts. The sun was shining, the birds were singing and the campers were all happy. All of the campers and volunteers enjoyed a well-rested late wake-up call this morning to catch up on some lost sleep from earlier this week. French toast (with home-made rhubarb-strawberry compote- yum!) and hash browns were awaiting us in the dining hall for breakfast.
After breakfast, the campers worked together to earn more house points by experimenting their potion making skills. The potions were a combination of pop, Jell-O, sprinkles and Kool-Aid. Five brave volunteers taste-tested each potion and even though there was some wincing, there were no adverse effects from drinking these magical concoctions.
After the house points were awarded to the winning potion concoction, it was time for lunch. The kitchen team prepared Muggle macaroni and cheese for all of us to enjoy. Once our stomachs were full, it was toes-up time to take a break from the hot sun.
With the warm sun still shining, everyone enjoyed heading down to the waterfront for a swim in the water. After cooling off in the lake, everyone got dressed and ready to use their teamwork and creativity to prepare some fun skits.
The skits were very entertaining for everyone. We had our nursing team perform a beautiful rendition of “A Whole New World” from Aladdin, and our older campers cracked some Harry Potter themed jokes, but the group favourite was a team dance choreographed by camper, Hunter. With such a short time period to prepare, everyone did such a great job!
The CQ Family welcomed many of our major donors and supporters onsite to enjoy a delicious turkey feast. We are so very thankful for the support all the organizations have done for us and were very happy they could join us out at camp.
After dinner, Mr. Lube presented Camp Quality with a $4000 cheque from their recent car wash. We are very grateful for the successful fundraising event and for Mr. Lube’s ongoing support.
After saying goodbye to all of our guests, we gathered in the ‘Great Hall’ to play some Harry Potter Trivia to earn some extra house points before the awards presentation tomorrow.
Since the sun was shining and it was still warm out after trivia, all the campers and volunteers found themselves heading back into the water for a late night swim. With the water a little bit cooler than during the day, it was time to warm up by the campfire with some marshmallows and pigs in a blanket for a bed time snack. We had a great time singing songs around the fire accompanied by volunteer, Kelsey on the guitar.
Next, everyone was off to bed to prepare for our Yule Ball tomorrow evening. We can’t wait to dress up and show off our favourite dance moves. Stay tuned for our final full day.
This is the sixth year that NetNewsLedger.com have hosted the Camp Quality Northwest blog. NetNewsLedger is pleased to support the work of Camp Quality, and the ongoing battle to beat cancer. On a personal note, cancer has taken both of my grandparents, it tried to take my mom. There are few people in Northwestern Ontario who are not impacted by cancer.
When cancer takes on children, it is time for us all to rally to help them.
