NORTH SPIRIT LAKE FIRST NATION – On June 13, 2017 the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were contacted by Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service (NAPS) to assist with a sudden death investigation in North Spirit Lake First Nation.

Earlier on June 13, 2017 NAPS had been contacted regarding a 2-year-old female who had been brought into the nursing station and was subsequently pronounced dead. The female has been identified as 2-year-old Aria Rose RAE from North Spirit First Nation.

Officers with the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) North West Region Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Unit under the direction of Detective Inspector Randy HEIDA of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.

The post mortem will be held at the Office of the Chief Coroner and Forensic Pathology Service (OCC-OFPS) in Toronto on June 15, 2017.
