THUNDER BAY – SPORTS – Lakehead University and the Thunderwolves hockey team are pleased to announce that Joseph Leonidas has joined the program.
The 6-foot, 190-pound defenceman played six seasons of junior “A” with stops in Calgary, Whitecourt and Drayton Valley in the Alberta Junior Hockey League, Amarillo of the North American Hockey League, Flin Flon in the Saskatchewan League, and finally Steinbach in the Manitoba league.
The Calgary, Alberta native’s most productive campaigns were with Flin Flon and Steinbach, where he tallied 33 and 34 points respectively in the last two years.
Thunderwolves’ Head Coach Bill McDonald said “It’s great to have Joseph commit to Lakehead. We wanted another defenceman with a left-handed shot, and were impressed with how he handled himself on his recruiting visit. He’s a smooth-skating, highly-skilled player that will give us some more offense from the back end.”
Leonidas, who will be enrolling in the Commerce program, said “I’m thrilled to be joining the Lakehead Thunderwolves. After my visit, I knew this was the place for me. The community support that the team has is unmatched in Canadian university hockey.” He went on to add, “Being an offensive-minded, puck-moving defenceman, I hope to use my skill set to contribute at both ends of the ice.”
