THUNDER BAY – Members of the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association (NOMA) elected their new President and Executive Vice President at day two of the annual conference.
Representing NOMA as president will be Mayor Wendy Landry of Shuniah. The executive vice president position will now be held by Mayor Doug Lawrance of Sioux Lookout. Outgoing president, Mayor David Canfield will move into the past president position.
“This was definitely a close election for both positions,” said Kristen Oliver, Executive Director of NOMA and the Electoral Officer for today’s election. “NOMA members certainly felt that the choices they had before them for the executive team were excellent and that under new leadership we can continue to be a strong voice for the northwest.”
Mayor Wendy Landry was elected as mayor of Shuniah in 2014. Prior to that she held a position on council for one term. She joined the NOMA board in 2015.
Mayor Doug Lawrance was elected as mayor of Sioux Lookout in 2014. He joined the NOMA board in 2015.
Day three of the annual conference will begin at 8:30 am tomorrow. As the result of weather, Norm Miller, MPP, Parry Sound – Muskoka and Sarah Campbell, MPP, Kenora-Rainy River have both cancelled their attendance.
