THUNDER BAY – SPORTS – The Lakehead women’s hockey team won the ACHA DII National Championship today in Columbus, Ohio
The Thunderwolves went into the twelve team pool tournament as the first ranked team in the West Division. Lakehead won their first game 10-0 over Aquinas College and went on to beat Navy 14-2 the following day. In the semi-final, the ‘Wolves knocked out Northern Michigan University 6-1.
Lakehead faced North DaKota State University in the final winning 3-1. Jacqueline Desimone opened the scoring for Lakehead in the first period. The Wolves added 2 more off the sticks of Allison Pages and Liv Carter as Lakehead lead 3-0 going into the third period. NDSU scored midway through the third period but Callie Bevilacqua was unstoppable in net to preserve the championship.

This extends the Thunderwolves winning streak to 19 wins in ACHA play and concludes their 2017 season.
