THUNDER BAY – LIVING – “Connecting the Dots: Data, Statistics, and the History of the Lakehead” Community Workshop is a free event being held on Saturday 4 March 2017 from 12:30 to 4:30 pm at Mary JL Black Library on South Edward Street.
The afternoon workshop takes a look at how we can use often-intimidating data and statistics to discover new information about our historical interests. Community records, directories, phone books, census, financial, and judicial documents have a story to tell beyond an accumulation of data.
Guest presenters include Dr Livio Di Matteo and Dr Ernie Epp from Lakehead University, Jesse Roberts of the Thunder Bay Public Library, Christine Wakefield of the Thunder Bay Archives, and Kyle Duckworth, Co-director of the Lakehead Social History Institute.
In the workshop portion of afternoon, Lakehead University History professor and Lakehead Social History Institute Co-director Beverly Soloway provides participants with a hands-on opportunity to practice finding hidden histories in some of the data Lakeheaders have collected over the years.
