Freezing Rain Warning for Far North

THUNDER BAY – WEATHER – The far north in Ontario is under a Freezing Rain Warning.

Freezing rain warning in effect for:

  • Fort Hope – Lansdowne House – Ogoki
  • Webequie
  • Sachigo Lake – Round Lake
  • Sandy Lake
  • KI
  • Fort Severn
  • Attawapiskat
  • Kashechewan

Freezing rain is expected or occurring.

An intensifying low pressure system is expected to sweep across Far Northern Ontario today. Freezing rain will begin late this morning over the Trout Lake and Fort Hope – Webequie regions, spreading north towards Fort Severn and Peawanuck by early this evening.

Up to 5 mm of ice accretion is possible before changing to rain tonight into Tuesday morning as temperatures rise above the freezing mark.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. Poor weather conditions may contribute to transportation delays.

Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.

For air travellers the weather is likely to impact air travel. Please check with your air carrier to ensure your flight plans are not impacted by weather.
