KENORA – Bob Nault, Member of Parliament (Kenora riding), has issued the following statement regarding the 2017 Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada events taking place in Kenora this weekend:
“I am very excited to be a part of such a fantastic event taking place in Northwestern Ontario. We northerners have a very long hockey history, one which we are proud to share as it has seen many accomplishments. From winning the Stanley Cup back in 1907, to producing numerous NHL players, to raising fans with a unique passion for the game like Len Kropioski, hockey is ingrained in our history.
“This enthusiasm for hockey exists not only in Kenora, but all of Northwestern Ontario, including our First Nations communities. I’ve seen firsthand how hockey can bring together a community and at the same time lead to some friendly rivalries that promote community spirit and healthy competition.
“I would like to welcome the rest of Canada to our fantastic riding, whether you’re here in person or watching on TV. Hockey is Canada’s sport and plays a huge role in the history of the Kenora riding. I hope you enjoy this special event celebrating the incredible game!”

The 2017 Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada activities began on Wednesday, February 15th, and finish with a live-broadcast on Saturday, February 18th. There are numerous events taking place including an NHL/Thistles alumni game, two Stanley Cup school visits, the Kroppy Cup Memorial Pond Hockey Tournament and an SIJHL game where Coaches Corner will broadcast live from, to name a few.
