THUNDER BAY – United Way of Thunder Bay Campaign Co-Chair, Mike Nitz, says the campaign has reached $1,287,481 so far, but they’re not done yet.
“There are a number of employee campaigns still taking place, along with some fundraising events. We typically see a lot of dollars come in closer to the end of the Campaign and that’s what we’re hoping for again this year.”
Earlier in the fall, we set our goal at $2,659,000. This goal was based on the needs of the community. Each year the needs in our community increases. We know this because each year our Allocations Committee made up of over 30 volunteers, goes through funding applications from local agencies. Each application outlines the needs our community has for these programs. This year the funding requests increased because more people need our help. More people need access to mental health services, to programs that will give their children the opportunity to succeed in life, or access to affordable food.
For over 50 years the United Way of Thunder Bay has been committed to achieving meaningful, long-term improvements to the quality of life in our community. We are working to address not just the symptoms of problems, but also getting at the root causes. It is about making fundamental, positive changes to community conditions. “We can’t do this alone. We need your generosity to make this a reality”, says Co-Chair Mike Nitz. “This holiday season, consider giving a gift to Thunder Bay by donating to the United Way.”
Nitz closed by saying “We can never be certain whether or not we will make our goal until the last donation is made. I’m here to remind everyone that when you help individuals to become stronger you are helping to make our whole community stronger. You still have until December 31st to make a donation to our Campaign and help us make this happen.”
Donations can be made online at www.uwaytbay.ca, or by mail and in person at the United Way office located at 1006-715 Hewitson Street Thunder Bay ON P7B 6B5.
