KENORA – Bob Nault, Member of Parliament for Kenora Riding, on behalf of the Honourable MaryAnn Mihychuk, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour, have announced that Grassy Narrows will receive $163,389 to invest in the First Nation Youth Employment program.

“Developing Canada’s youth is a priority for this government. Often times, youth want to get into the workforce but lack the skills or support systems to follow through. Projects like this one can help put regular paycheques into the reach of those who need it. But more than that, they give young Canadians the chance to change their future,” says Bob Nault.

The Government of Canada will provide the funding for this project through the Skills Link program, which supports projects that provide hands-on work experience, job search assistance and skills upgrading resources for youth facing barriers to employment. The program will run for 43 weeks and have 18 participants.

Following start-up and recruitment, the participants will take part in Group-based Employability Skills, which include training on resume preparation, first aid, Smart Serve, communications skills and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information.  After completing the employability skills workshop, participants will enter the workforce for 12 weeks.

“Giving youth a strong start will ensure that the next generation of workers, entrepreneurs, business leaders, innovators, and tradespeople are well-prepared to enter the workforce,” concluded Nault.
