THUNDER BAY – WEATHER – Across the City of Thunder Bay, road conditions have caused a number of accidents. Winter conditions across the region have closed the Trans-Canada Highway from Ignace to Shabaqua Corner. Reports of many vehicles stranded along the highway have come into the newsroom.
The snow is continuing across the region with strong winds, blowing and drifting snow and significant snowfall amounts.

Hazardous winter conditions are expected.
Snow, heavy at times, will continue tonight, with total snowfall amounts in the 10 to 20 centimetre range by Saturday morning.
A report of 14 cm of snow has been received from a trained spotter from a few km west of Thunder Bay Airport. An other trained spotter reported about 6 cm of snow on the ground just NE of Thunder Bay near 11 PM.
The winter conditions along with wind and earlier icy conditions have impacted Thunder Bay Hydro customers as 500 customers are without power.
Snowfall amounts are significantly higher further to the west with some areas having reported over 30 cm as of 11 PM EDT.
In addition, strong and gusty northerly winds will generate blowing
snow reducing visibilities tonight.
The snow will taper off to scattered flurries by early Saturday morning as the winter storm moves away to the northeast.
Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas.
