THUNDER BAY, ON – Lakehead athletics are excited to announce that Jenna Gunter, an athlete who can play any position, has made her commitment for her education at Lakehead University. At 6′ Jenna brings a physical presence, strong competitive drive and an inherent desire to take her game as far as she can. She has both passion and leadership characteristics.

Jenna has been accepted into the Faculty of Education.

Jenna comes from a family of Volleyball Athletes. Mom, Dawn was an accomplished player at Selkirk Regional Comprehensive High School who then played 2 years at the University of Winnipeg, while Father Craig played on Championship teams under the direction of Jim Schreyer at the Lord Selkirk Regional Comprehensive High School. Jenna’s sister, Baylee, is a multi sport athlete currently playing for the Bison’s 15U Volleyball Team.

Jenna joins fellow Winnipeg natives Sara Hudson and Brittany MacLeod’s announcements this past month as well as local athlete Vanessa Masters.

Jenna’s volleyball resume boasts contributions to strong contending high school and club teams in Manitoba. She led her high school team into the finals this past season in the MHSAA (Manitoba High School Athletic Association) 4A championships, and currently captains the 18/17U Cobras Volleyball Club. The Cobra’s VBC is consistently a National Contender year after year.

Her 16U team 2 years back was a 16U National Silver Medalists. This past High school year Jenna was recognized as a Graduating All Star for the MHSAA.

Head Coach Chris Green said, “In building teams, we must continue to search for that talent that helps you in all facets of the game. It is a pleasure to have Jenna commit to furthering her growth and development at Lakehead while attaining her Education degree. The first time I saw Jenna I was inspired by her passion and drive. She was working to succeed in a tough game and really showed the drive I want my players to have. Her hometown (and mine) has a rich history of volleyball. It produces so many of the top players in Manitoba in both men’s and women’s Volleyball. I played back a long time ago with her dad and admired her mom’s play. Jenna displays so much of their characteristics in her play. Her high school coaches, Ms. Fewchuk and Mrs. Craig have done a fantastic job with her. Now I look forward to taking her game to new levels as we build a contending team in the OUA and the CIS. She will grow fast and make contributions to our success for years to come. We need her passion.”

Commenting on coming to Lakehead University, Jenna said, “I’m really looking forward to playing at Lakehead University and playing for Chris. He has coached at a high level and I’m excited to continue learning more about the game. I am very happy with my decision to be apart of this team.”
