MONTREAL – SPORTS – The Lakehead Thunderwolves were shut out 4-0 by the Concordia Stingers at the Ed Meagher Arena in Montreal on Saturday night.
Concordia scored two power play goals in the first period to put the Wolves behind the eight ball early on. Philippe Sanche struck first at 6:56, and then Scott Oke beat Lakehead netminder Devin Green on a backhander at 18:25 to give the Stingers a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.
Raphael Lafontaine struck twice in the second to extend Concordia’s lead to 4-0. His first came off a shot from a sharp angle that caromed off the post and in at 12:32, and then just over three minutes later he connected on a one-timer from the slot after the Wolves had a defensive breakdown.
Justin McDonald replaced Green in the Lakehead net to start the third period and looked solid, and although the Wolves came on stronger in the final frame, they were unable to solve Stingers’ goalie Miguel Sullivan who recorded the shutout.
Total shots on goal for the night were 29-20 in favor of Concordia.
Lakehead was 0-for-4 on the power play, while the Stingers went 2-for-7.
The loss drops Lakehead’s OUA record 3-4, and to 3-8 overall.
After five straight road games, the Wolves will return home to host the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks next weekend.
