THUNDER BAY – HEALTH – On October 25, the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care will host the first of five Town Hall sessions across the province as part of a public consultation process for the dementia strategy document, Developing Ontario’s Dementia Strategy: A Discussion Paper, release on September 21, 2016.

The Town Hall will give opportunity for community members to have their say on what is needed from an Ontario dementia strategy. The Town Halls will cover a range topics including, how to better support people living with dementia and care partners, creating more coordinated and accessible services, enhancing the dementia workforce, and identifying priorities in research and brain health.

Swift political action towards a provincial dementia strategy is needed. Today, there are over 200,000 Ontarians living with dementia and this number is expected to increase by 15 per cent in just four years. Ontarians living with dementia and those who care for them deserve a strong dementia strategy – the time for action is now.

The Thunder Bay Town Hall will be held on October 25, beginning at 6:00 p.m. The session will be hosted at the Victoria Inn Hotel and Convention Centre, located at 555 Arthur St W., Thunder Bay, ON P7E 5R5. If you wish to attend this event, you can register by visiting https://www.ontario.ca/form/register-dementia-strategy-town-hall-meetings or registering by phone: 1-416-212-1697. Drop-ins are also welcome if you are unable to pre-register.

“Virtually all Ontarians will be touched by dementia in some way – our families, our workplaces and our communities. We need to work individually and as a collective group to build a province that respects and supports the needs of people with dementia so they can live as well as possible, and where their care partners are supported.”  -Chris Dennis, CEO at the Alzheimer Society of Ontario.

The Alzheimer Society invites all those impacted by dementia to be a part of this public consultation and ongoing development of an Ontario dementia strategy by visiting www.actionfordementia.ca.
