Serious Sexual Assault on Cumberland

THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay Police report that on the October 23, 2016 at 4:40AM EDT, a violent sex assault occurred on North Cumberland Street around the 300 block.

In a statement police say, that “A female was walking northbound on Cumberland when a male unknown to her grabbed her and sexually assaulted her. The incident lasted approximately a half hour until the female was able to flag down a passing motorist who called police. The female was transported to Thunder Bay Regional Hospital where she was treated and released”.

The suspect is described as a male having a fair complexion and dark clothing, 5’8″ with a medium build.

Police are advising the public to exercise caution and vigilance when they are out in public:
• Advise friends or family if you’re planning a walk around the community, especially after dark.
• Carry a cell phone or travel with a companion.
• Please be aware of your surroundings.
