Magnus Theatre has been entertaining local audiences for more than 40 years.

THUNDER BAY – THEATRE – It is said that at a dinner  party you should  never discuss  religion, politics or money.  Amir enjoys a comfortable  life   with his American wife, a talented artist influenced by Islamic art. But when Amir’s Muslim heritage is questioned by a Jewish friend and his African American wife, his life begins to unravel during a celebratory dinner that leads to a fiery debate  on  prejudice,  identity and faith.

Magnus Theatre is proud to present DISGRACED, a Pulitzer Prize winning drama that explores lslamophobia . The  play, set in New York City, is the story of an ambitious Pakistani-American lawyer, Amir, who is faced with several unsettling truths about himself, his situation, and his perspectives. The play asks challenging questions about the    nature and purpose of faith, about relationships between races in contemporary America, and about the process and responsibilities of creating  art.

Making their debut on the Magnus stage are: Malube (Jory), Shelley Antony (Amir), Matt Raffy (Abe) and Daniela Vlaskalic (Emily). Martin Sims returns to the Magnus Stage after appearing in last season’s critically acclaimed Venus in Fur.

“This highly topical, very powerful, and engaging  play will surely  prompt many interesting discussions  at the ploy’s  end and continue long after this extraordinary theatre experience, ” said Director Mario Crudo about  Disgraced . Lighting Designer Tim Rodrigues, Costume Designer Mervi Agombar and Set Designer Douglas Robinson will set the scene for us. Gillian Jones returns as Stage  Manager.

DISGRACED was the winner of the 2013 Pulitzer Prize and was called “..terrific and turbulent” by The New York Times. It’s a tale of the stories we tell our friends, the secrets we tell our lovers and the lies we tell ourselves to find our place in the world.

Disgraced runs from Monday October 31st to Saturday November 12th at Magnus Theatre with a Gala Performance taking  place on Thursday  November  3rd at 8pm.
