SUDBURY, Ont. – Michael Stubbs scored three times and added an assist to help the Thunder Bay bantam Kings blast the Timmins Eagles 13-1 Friday in the opener of a five-team Showcase event in Sudbury.
Thunder Bay took control early in the contest grabbing a 4-0 lead after one period of play on markers on a pair by Stubbs along with singles from Mason Bazaluk and Owen Perala.
The Kings then blew it open in the middle session as they outscored Timmins 7-1 to take a commanding cushion into the final frame.
Perala added two more to finish off a hat trick of his own while Dylan Bertrand supplied a pair.
Nikolas Campbell, Mackenzie Sedgwick and Stubbs also scored for the Kings in the period.
Stubbs then rounded out the offensive barrage with a shorthanded effort in the third to complete the one-sided decision.
Connor Lemieux started in net for Thunder Bay and picked up the win with Stephan Bourgeois entering midway through in as the duo combined to face only nine shots in the victory.
The Kings return to the ice Saturday with beginning at 11 a.m. as they take on the Soo Thunder before concluding the day against the host Nickel City Sons at 6 p.m.
The bantams will then wrap-up their trip to Greater Sudbury Sunday vs. the North Bay Trappers at 10 a.m.
