THUNDER BAY – DISC, or DiSC as it is sometimes known, is a personality assessment method commonly used today in a variety of ways. Based on William Marston’s DISC theory of personality, the test is based on the idea that people can be “rated” on four different personality traits. Those traits are then used to create DIC profiles. Everything disc certification offers can help employers find the right people for each job within their organization.

The acronym DISC stands for the four personality traits that are tested in these tests. D stands for Dominance or Drive, I for Influence or Inducement, S for Submission or Steadiness, and C for Caution, Compliance, or Conscientiousness. Generally, people who have a high D score are active and able to easily cope when faced with challenges and problems. On the flip side, those who score low in this category are usually the personality types who like to weigh all the options and do all the research before tackling a problem or making any important decisions. High D personalities are described as demanding, strong willed, driven, aggressive, trailblazers. Low D personalities are often described as cautious, conservative, cooperative, peaceful, and modest.

People with a high I score are emotional and can be very convincing through their speech. They are the charismatic people, the ones who are known as warm, persuasive, demonstrative and usually optimistic. Those with a low score in this category are generally less emotional, and are more convinced to do things when presented with facts and data. These people are calculating, suspicious, skeptical and pessimistic.

High S scorers typically prefer routine and a predictable, steady pace. They don’t like change. They are patient, deliberate, stable and not easily governed by emotions. Low S scorers are more adaptable to change and variety. They are typically characterized by being eager, impulsive, restless and/or impatient.

People with a high C factor are rule followers. They like to take their time and do a job right the first time around. The are careful, cautious, neat, diplomatic, accurate and tactful. Those with a low C factor are more free spirits who like to break rules. They are opinionated and not bogged down by details.

DiSC profiles are useful in the workplace because they can identify various personality types and find the ones that are best suited to various jobs within a corporation.  Find out more information on websites such as Disc Profile USA.
