Planning ahead this way ensures that don’t face any kind of problems when you are applying for a record suspension, also known as a pardon.

The Record Suspension AKA Pardon

A pardon is actually granted by the Parole Board of Canada (PBC) only when it is confirmed that you are eligible for it and you have been involved in zero criminal activities after beginning your in prison term. To be eligible for a pardon application , you should have completed all sentences, paid all your fines or surcharges and the time is past the waiting period you were given by the rightful authorities.

Many believe that previous criminal activities are erased from the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) database. This is not true. Instead, your criminal record is removed from the CPIC (Canadian Police Information Center) database and transferred to the RCMP one.

This allows you to avail job and educational opportunities without any hesitation because your criminal activities are hidden and cannot be seen by anyone except the rightful authorities such as the Parole Board Generals.

The Cost of a Pardon Process

By now you should have a clear understanding of what a pardon really is. Once you are eligible to apply for it, put together all the necessarily documents required by the PBC and send them to the Receiver General of the Parole Board of Canada. The processing fee is 631 Canadian Dollars with an additional $25 for a fingerprint form. Remember that there are other fees that must be paid while you are putting together  mandatory documents to be sent in order to apply for the record suspension process. Remember to pay the fee through cheque, pay order or through a credit card because PBC does not accept cash.

Once you have sent your documents along with the processing fee and other fees to the receiver General of PBC, you’ll have to wait for a while. A pardon can take 2 years easily to be accepted by the PBC so you have to be very patient about it.
