Thunder Bay District Social ServicesTHUNDER BAY – The District of Thunder Bay Social Services Administration Board (TBDSSAB) is pleased to announce that funding through the Community Social Reinvestment Program (CSRP) will again be available. The CSRP provides funding to eligible community agencies in the effort to reduce the depth of poverty and improve the quality of life for children and families throughout the District of Thunder Bay.

Available funding for CSRP was approved by the Board in the TBDSSAB 2016 Operating Budget and totals $589,900, an amount identical to 2015 and consistent with previous years’ allocations. The CSRP provides community agencies with funds to support programs for children and families with a primary focus on nutrition, recreation, and reduction in child poverty within the District of Thunder Bay. Community agencies are invited to submit a proposal by September 30th. The applications, available at http://www.tbdssab.ca, will be evaluated according to eligibility criteria and funding priorities.

Of the 46 funded programs approved for 2016, 71% of the CSRP allocation, or more than $418,000, has addressed nutrition or food security issues. Recreation programs that offset the costs of activities such as hockey, skating, and gymnastics for low income families received more than $88,000 or 15% of CSRP funds. 4% of funds were devoted to extraordinary needs and 10% assisted with employment supports for parents.

“CSRP funding supports a number of excellent initiatives throughout the District of Thunder Bay,” said TBDSSAB CAO William Bradica. “The funding helps to reduce the depth and breadth of poverty while recognizing the importance of social inclusion by enhancing recreational opportunities for low income families.”
