Winnipeg – WEATHER – All across Manitoba and heading into Northwestern Ontario are a series of thunderstorm cells. The City of Winnipeg is under both a heat warning, and a Severe Thunderstorm Warning.

Severe thunderstorm warning in effect for:

  • City of Winnipeg

At 8:26 p.m. CDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a line of dangerous thunderstorms capable of producing damaging wind gusts, golf ball to tennis ball size hail and torrential rain.

A large line of severe thunderstorms continues from Manitou northeast through Winnipeg and Selkirk. The entire line is moving eastward at 50 km/h.

Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Very large hail can damage property, break windows, dent vehicles and cause serious injury. Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Go indoors and move away from windows and skylights. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
