At a special ceremony to recognize the achievements of local hockey hero Matt Murray, Mayor Hobbs presented an official City Scroll to Murray with his mother and family in attendance.
“This is such an honour to be here with Matt, as hockey is such a big part of Thunder Bay,” said Mayor Keith Hobbs. “So many young people have played here and dreamed of getting to where this young man has made it in such a short time. We are so proud to have a local role-model and talented athlete like Matt Murray, represent our City.”

The ceremony was hosted by the NWO Sports Hall of fame with Executive Director Diane Imrie and Vice President Harry Curtis present.
On Tuesday, Matt Murray begins his day with the Stanley Cup, from the time it arrives in Thunder Bay at the International Airport where Lord Stanley’s Mug will be transported onboard a Kasper Mini Bus around events across the city. The public celebration will be at Intercity Shopping Centre from 12:00 to 2:00 – make plans to get their early is the best bet from the likely size of the crowds expected.
The Pittsburgh Penguin goaltender who backstopped the Penn’s to the Stanley Cup victory will spend the day sharing the Cup and then have the evening for private celebrations.
