THUNDER BAY – There have been a rash of incidents over the past ten days in downtown Fort William. Windows of vehicles have been smashed as apparently thieves are on the lookout for valuables left inside parked vehicles.

The recent spree of incidents started ten days ago with a window smashed while parked on Brodie Street East across from the CIBC. There was another window smashed a day later right across from City Hall also on Brodie Street.

The window on a food truck parked on May Street South was smashed as well.

Further on the west side of Victoriaville, a window on a vehicle was smashed.

Thunder Bay Police have been doing their standard patrols in the area, and some business owners report that they have seen Officers doing patrols on mountain bikes. The previous years street patrols where officers were walking the neighbourhood, talking to residents, visitors and business owners appears to have been dropped or no longer as frequent.

Over the report period, there were ninety-four incidents reported to the Thunder Bay Police Service in the downtown Fort William neighbourhood.

There were fifty-five quality of life calls, which involve alcohol, drugs, or disturbances.

There were also twenty-one incidents involving property crime, which would include window smashing, break and enter, or vandalism.

There were 18 incidents in the downtown area involving violence. These included a reported sexual assault on June 29th that was reported to Police at 11AM.
