Busy Night for Police – Weapons Call in Fort William

THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay Police Service responded to an apparent weapons call in downtown Fort William this evening. A total of four police units, three marked units and one unmarked unit responded. Officers suspected that a man in the area had a firearm.

Several of the officers drew their service weapons on the male suspect who was taken into custody without incident. A large crowd of people were gathered from outside a nearby drinking establishment.

There was also a reported stabbing incident at Patterson Park earlier in the day, which is unrelated to the incident this evening.

Over the past week in the downtown Fort William neighbourhood there have been several fights, and a number of alcohol related calls.

There have been 14 Quality of Life calls, seven incidents involving violence, and seven property crime calls.

Police Respond to Accident on Arthur Street

Also earlier this evening, traffic on Arthur Street, near the intersection with Edward Street was held up due to a motor vehicle accident. Police had crime tape up at the Petro Canada service station parking lot.

It appears that two pick up trucks collided. There are no reports of serious injuries so far. The Crime Scene Investigation Unit was on sight for the accident.
