THUNDER BAY — The Thunder Bay District is moving from storm to storm recovery today. The rapid rainfall has impacted many roadways in the area.

The City of Thunder Bay received, so far 227 calls from residents experiencing flooding issues. If you have an issue, call Infrastructure & Operations Dispatch to report concerns at 625-2195.

Northwood Mall on Edward Street is open for business today. All of the businesses which are normally open on Sunday are open today.

Walkways and pathways in Northwood are open, but some near the river are closed in places.

Across Thunder Bay rising river and creeks have several of the bike and pedestrian pathways closed due to rising waters. Many of these pathways that are under water are not marked. It is likely a good idea for parents to advise their children to stay away from rivers and parks.

Safety is our top priority. Ministry staff and contractors have assessed the damage at each location and repairs are underway. We will continue to monitor water levels throughout the area and make necessary repairs. Additional details on estimated time for opening of the roads will be provided when they become available.

Motorists are reminded to obey and follow all traffic signage and flag persons for the safety of both workers and drivers.

For the latest information on highway closures, the public can call 511, MTO’s Road Information Line or check www.ontario.ca/511.
