Treaty One Territory. The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs (AMC) is pleased to announce Canupawakpa Dakota Nation is once again an official member of AMC.

Newly elected Chief Viola Eastman and Councillors Gerald Sandy and Marlene Demas stated their desire to re-establish membership with AMC. On June 14, 2016, at a Chief and Council meeting, the Canupawakpa Dakota Nation passed a Band Council Resolution reinstating its membership with AMC.

In 2009, Canupawakpa Dakota Nation withdrew its membership with AMC. Canupawakpa Dakota Nation is located on the Oak Lake Reserve, 100 kilometres southwest of Brandon, Manitoba.

AMC Grand Chief Derek Nepinak acknowledged Canupawakpa’s reinstated membership saying, “I welcome back Canupawakpa Dakota Nation as an official member of AMC. I look forward to working with Chief Viola Eastman and Band Councillors in re-establishing and strengthening our relationship, as we work towards better futures for our people.”
