THUNDER BAY – Environment Canada says that there is a risk of frost for this evening. The June 7th forecast is calling for cloudy conditions with a 40 percent chance of showers this morning then a mix of sun and cloud. Winds will be northwest 20 km/h gusting to 40. High 15. UV index 6 or high.
The conditions so far in June are far less summer weather like than most would like, however they have had a positive impact on the wildfire situation across Northwestern Ontario.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) report there were no new fires confirmed by the afternoon of June 6 in the Northwest Region.
The fire hazard is low across the region except for the far north where there is a moderate fire hazard.
- All active fires in the region are under control
- Kenora District Fire 018 had an infrared scan of the fire June 6 – no hot spots found
- Red Lake District Fire 003 – Incident Management Team has transitioned out and the fire is being managed from the Red Lake Fire Management Headquarters
- Thunder Bay District Fire 019 – infrared scan of the fire showed no hot spots
- This quiet time is allowing for FireRangers and staff to continue with mandatory training and skills updates.
