THUNDER BAY – Anishinabek Nation Grand Council Chief Patrick Madahbee and the Minister of Northern Development and Mines, Michael Gravelle, met today to continue working on a positive and productive relationship and to discuss both the Anishinabek Nation and Ontario’s shared priorities in the mineral and mines sector.
“I look forward in continuing our ongoing relationship with the Minister of Northern Development and Mines as identified in the letter of commitment that was signed on June 25, 2013,” stated Grand Council Chief Madahbee. “We discussed renewing our partnership with Ontario, online staking for phase 3 of the Mining Act, Anishinabek values and occupancy mapping and capacity for our Northern Superior Region.”
“I am very pleased to meet again with Grand Council Chief Patrick Wedaseh Madahbee and the Union of Ontario Indians leadership to discuss the Anishinabek Nation interests, shared priorities in the mineral sector and economic development for the North. This meeting built upon our previous discussions that have been productive and positive, and I look forward to continuing an important relationship with Grand Council Chief Madahbee and the Anishinabek leadership,” said Michael Gravelle, Minister of Northern Development and Mines.
The Letter of Commitment commits the Grand Council Chief of the Anishinabek Nation and the Minister of Northern Development and Mines to meet twice annually, build on positive relationships, review mutual priorities, provide direction, work towards resolution and exchange ideas.
