WINNIPEG – The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs (AMC) are hosting a 2nd Tea & Bannock Dialogue to discuss decolonization and revitalizing First Nations Traditional Governance.

The government’s recent commitment to implement the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action – specifically, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples – necessitates grassroots discussions on decolonization, what it means and how to move forward.

Moving forward requires shifting away from colonial confinement of the Indian Act, as Indigenous peoples’ sovereignty is not found within this legislation. It is time to start talking about who we are outside of these constraints.

AMC’s ‘Road to Niagara’ caravan aims to raise awareness about the spirit and intent of our treaties, moving towards a future without Indian Act colonial legislation.

When: Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at 8:00 a.m.
