KENORA – FIRE UPDATE – The Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services program of the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry notes that cottagers and those affected by the Kenora 018 wildfire on the Ontario/Manitoba border are invited to a meeting with Ontario and Manitoba officials today (May 15) at 2 p.m. in the Whiteshell Community Hall in Falcon Lake, Manitoba.

Evacuation orders remain in effect at this time, but fire management personnel want to provide an update on their efforts and discuss a timeline for partial lifting of the evacuation orders.

Although there has been some rain across the Northwest Region in recent days, rainfall amounts have not been significant enough to reduce the fire hazard over the long term and weather forecasts indicate that by early next week drier conditions will return.

As a result in an effort to reduce the risk of human caused fires, the Restricted Fire Zone will remain in place through the weekend in the Northwest Region, and will be reviewed the week of May 16.
