Police Engaged in Armed Standoff on Minnesota Avenue

THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay Police are engaged in what the department is saying is an armed standoff in the 800 Block of Minnesota Avenue in the South Core of the city.

Residents in the area, between Atlantic Avenue and Southern Avenue have been asked at this time to stay indoors.

In a media statement Police say, “Officers were called to the location to check the welfare of a male resident.  The area around this location has been contained by police.  A command post has been established.  We are advising residents of homes between Atlantic and Southern Avenues to stay in their homes.

“Minnesota Street between Atlantic and Southern Avenues has been closed off while we attempt to resolve the incident.

“Loud noises heard at this time in the vicinity of the incident are not gunshots.  The area is safely contained.  Police are attempting to make contact with the male”.

Ogden Public School is currently under lockdown. All of the staff and students are safe.
