THUNDER BAY – NEWS – The owner of a Blucher Avenue rental property has been ticketed for failing to maintain a smoke alarm and also for failing to install a carbon monoxide alarm where required. Each ticket carries a fine of $360.
On May 2nd, Thunder Bay Fire Rescue investigated a complaint that had been made against the property. The investigation revealed that a smoke alarm in the home was not working and the home didn’t have the required carbon monoxide alarm.
“Thunder Bay Fire Rescue has a zero tolerance policy regarding smoke and carbon monoxide alarm violations,” said Deputy Fire Chief Dave Paxton. “Only a carbon monoxide alarm can alert you to its deadly presence and only a smoke alarm gives you the time needed to escape a fire emergency.”
Thunder Bay Fire Rescue reminds residents that it is the law to have working smoke alarms on every level of your home and outside all sleeping areas. Carbon Monoxide alarms are required to be installed outside any sleeping area if your home has a fuel fired appliance, a fireplace or an attached garage.
