THUNDER BAY – I am writing in response both to comments made by Bruce Hyer and other comments made in various media outlets suggesting that the funding for the Cyclotron in Thunder Bay didn’t need to be in the budget but could simply be transferred to FedNor. This is not accurate. As a mayor who has worked on
FedNor applications I know there are procedures that must be followed, criteria that must be met and qualifications that must be satisfied.
Because of the size of this investment in relation to FedNor the Cyclotron needs to be included as a budget item, much as the Medical School was. Clearly the NDP don’t appear to understand. They don’t seem to want to create jobs in Thunder Bay Superior North.
It’s time to stop playing games. This is a good budget. It is focused on the economy, supporting hardworking Canadians and their families and completing and securing our economic recovery.
It brings back the ecoENERGY program; it provides assistance for seniors, caregivers, volunteer firefighters and small businesses. It provides initiatives to attract health-careworkers to rural and remote communities and includes legislation to make the two billion dollar Gas Tax Fund
