Guardian Angels Partner to Help Street People

THUNDER BAY – The Guardian Angels presented an overview of their plans for 2016 at a press conference held at their headquarters on May Street South in the downtown Fort William neighbourhood.

Guardian Angels have partnered up with Home Depot Canada and the Joseph Esquaga Health Centre to start building programs that mesh in with the other organizations in the city who are providing services.

Ian Hodgkinson states that the model is based on Homeboy Industries that started in Los Angeles. “We want to get smart on fighting crime,” stated Hodgkinson. Read more about Homeboy Industries and Father G here: http://www.homeboyindustries.org/

That is where the Home Depot comes in. Through the Guardian Angels programs offering training in basics of trades will be offered.

The partnership with the Joseph Esquaga Health Centre will allow the Guardian Angels to take help directly to the people on the streets.

Doctor Everall – Medical Care on the Streets

Dr. Everall from the clinic states that they have had girls as young as 14 years of age coming into their clinic who are working the streets. Some the doctor shares are working for as little as ten dollars. The impact of these lifestyles are hitting hard on the health of these young girls.
