We have a Role in the Running of Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre

409

There has been a lot of public concern about the extreme conditions in the Emergency Department at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (TBRHSC). In addition to writing letters to the newspapers and our MPPs, members of the public from the districts of Kenora, Rainy River and Thunder Bay can become corporate members of the hospital board.

In 2008, the Membership Notice stated “To ensure adequate representation and participation of community members, memberships to the Thunder Bay Regional

Health Sciences Centre Corporation are offered on sale to individual citizens.” Memberships are on sale for $10 until April 15th. To apply for a membership, phone TBRHSC and ask for the President’s Office or phone directly to 683-6007.

Membership entitles you to vote at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on June 16th and to ask questions about the Annual Report and the Nomination Slate of Officers. Also, a special meeting of the Board must be called if 10 members sign a letter requesting a meeting on a topic of their concern such as achieving better conditions in the Emergency Department.

Regular Board meetings are usually 5 p.m. the first Wednesday of the month Sept. to June. All Board meetings are “open to the public except for discussion of business with respect to contractual, litigious or human resource issues”.

Membership information hasn’t been publicized yet this year and the membership deadline is only one month away.
