THUNDER BAY – York Regional Police launched a new Say No to Hate campaign on Friday, January 22nd. The goal of the campaign is to raise awareness surrounding hate crimes and hate-bias incidents and educate York Region citizens on when they should contact police if they are a victim or a witness of a hate-related incident.

The York Regional Police has partnered with York Region Transit to place Say No to Hate ads on the back of 10 buses in the York Region Transit fleet, as well as 390 ads inside of the buses.

“Working in one of the most diverse communities in Canada, it is important that York Regional Police proactively engage with the public and educate them on hate crime and our zero tolerance for hate crime and hate-bias activities,” stated York Police Chief Eric Jolliffe, “We want to thank our partners at York Region Transit for their support and donation of the advertising space for this campaign.”

The campaign is a part of a larger hate-crime prevention program which has seen York Regional Police training YRT/Viva special constables, bus operators and bylaw officers on hate crime and hate-bias incidents.
