Nipigon River Bridge Update

THUNDER BAY – Steven Del Duca, the Ontario Minister of Transportation along with Minister Michael Gravelle offered an update on the Nipigon Bridge situation. The Minister promised that the Nipigon River Bridge would be open by the end of February 2016.Minister of Transportation and Minister of Northern Development and Mines Michael Gravelle held a conference call to update media on the Nipigon River Bridge.

Minister Duca promised that the Nipigon River Bridge will be open by the end of February.

The bolts that are the apparent reason for the bridge failure are being tested to try to determine what caused them to fail. The Minister assures people that the bridge is safe, and that the Ministry of Transportation, working with Engineers from across Canada will get to the bottom of the problem.

Minister Duca said that the bridge was designed to withstand temperatures well below -40c and wind speeds well in excess of 100kph.
