Last week I had noticed that I had a large dry patch on my forehead, so I grabbed my  Derma e products, my very clear cleanser, purify spray toner, very clear scrub and then the purify oil free moisturizer. I hadn’t used it yet and didn’t remember it had charcoal and as you can see from my instagram, I thought it was quite the heavy metal surprise.

purifyThe cream itself does not go on black, just looks that way when its concentrated. But figured I’d post and write about this black product that you may not think it for its beauty uses.

So why charcoal? isn’t it already been all burnt up?

Yes in plain terms, it is. It’s the that fact of it all being brunt and dried up that it makes it the perfect way to soak up anything, like oils.

….Activated Charcoal, known for absorbing 100 to 200 times its weight in impurities, purges pores of deeply rooted toxins…. – dermae.com

Activated charcoal and regular charcoal are almost identical – the only difference is that activated charcoal has been created solely for medicinal use.

To create activated charcoal, regular charcoal is heated with a gas that causes the charcoal to expand, creating a porous surface that traps toxins.Activated charcoal works because it chemically binds other substances to its surface and can absorb thousands of times its own weight. It also has an incredibly large surface area due to all of its pores.

Activated charcoal has been used to purify water, and used in air filters for decades.  It is also used in a wide variety of any first aid kits in pure caplet form to help if you have been poisoned.

Activated charcoal uses extend beyond internal applications.

For external treatments, it’s effective at treating body odor and acne and relieving discomfort from insect bites, rashes from poison ivy or poison oak, and snake bites. The activated charcoal binds with environmental toxins and dirt that contribute to acne. It’s also good for spot treatments.

If you have sensitive and oily skin and want a all natural mineral eye shadow or liner. You can use just crushed or dampened charcoal for a good black liner or shadow.

Because it is so good at removing toxins it is also used for wide variety of anti-aging treatments.

Aging is a natural part of life, but due to the toxic load we are exposed to through food, our homes and workplaces, and our environment, to prevent pre-mature aging we must get rid of them.
