THUNDER BAY – UPDATED – Thunder Bay Police report that “At about 10:40 a.m. this morning, two officers were doing a routine traffic stop on Memorial Ave near Third Ave. One officer had exited the police cruiser to issue a ticket to the driver of the vehicle that they had stopped, and was walking back to the cruiser when he spotted an approaching blue Dodge pick-up truck. The officer believed he was going to be struck, so jumped between the cruiser and the stopped car to get out of the way.
UPDATE – Both the 19 year old female passenger of the pick-up truck and the police officer have been released from hospital. Neither suffered serious injuries.
The investigation is continuing. Police are requesting that anyone who directly witnessed this event to contact A/Sgt Todd Pritoula at 684-1200 in order to make a witness statement.
Earlier – “The pick-up truck actually struck the stopped cruiser, pushing it forward and striking the officer.
“The officer who had been out of the cruiser has been taken to TBHSC with undetermined non-life-threatening injuries. The officer who had been in the cruiser was treated for some minor neck injuries, and a pregnant female passenger of the pick-up truck has been taken to hospital to be medically checked. The twenty year old male driver of the truck was uninjured.
“The matter is being further investigated.”
