Thunder Bay Hydro Crews working to Restore Full Service

THUNDER BAY – NEWS – Thunder Bay Hydro is advising residents in rural areas in the north section of the city to check the private power lines on their property as electricity is slowly being restored after an overnight storm.  Everyone is cautioned to stay at least 10 meters away from any downed power lines.  Downed lines including those on private property should be reported to Thunder Bay Hydro at 343-1111.

Hydro reports, “Yesterday evening, while rain covered the city of Thunder Bay, the precipitation turned to heavy wet snow inland.  This resulted in trees bending and breaking onto powerlines and causing widespread power outages in the rural north section of the city.

At its peak, about 2500 customers were without power.  Crews were brought in and worked through the night.  Progress was hampered by rural road conditions and the continuing issue of trees succumbing to snow loads after sections were already cleared. Some customers are expected to be restored by noon while others may continue to remain without power throughout the day.
