Peewee Queens Having Perfect Weekend

BLAINE, Minn. – The Thunder Bay peewee Queens are off to the semifinals at the Centennial Super Chill tournament in Blaine, Minn.

The peewees went a perfect 3-0 in their first three games and will now take on Osseo-Maple Grove at 11:00AM Sunday.

A berth in the championship game awaits the winner at 4:40 p.m. while the club that is defeated will compete in the bronze medal contest at 3:10PM.

Meanwhile the Tim Hortons bantam A Queens went 0-2-1 in round robin play and will meet the Mahtomedi Zephyrs in their final contest of the event Sunday at 12:30PM.

In the peewee’s opener Friday, Alexis Paddington notched a hat trick in a 3-1 victory over the Minneapolis Storm.

Lindsay Humenick picked up the win in net making 16 saves along the way. Saturday morning vs. the host Centennial Cougars, Thunder Bay prevailed once again skating to another 3-1 decision.

Paddington and Mackenzie Cambly had a goal and an assist each while Grace Grosjean also scored for the Queens.

Mykaila George stopped 13 of 14 attempts in posting the victory in the Thunder Bay net.

Saturday afternoon the Queens earned their semifinal berth after a 5-3 triumph over the Burnsville Blaze.

Paddington continued her offensive prowess notching another hat trick and setting up a marker in the decision.

Gaby Andreacchi and Rachel Johnson also supplied markers in the win while Humenick made 19 stops to secure the win.

As for the bantam A Queens, they began with a 3-3 draw against Mahtomedi.

After the Zephyrs opened the scoring early, Kayla Stein set-up Isabella Badanai for the equalizer two minutes later.

Thunder Bay fell behind again in the middle session and again rebounded with a tying tally that came off the stick of Jessie Scott with just seven seconds left in the period.

Mahtomedi took their third lead midway through the final frame, but the Queens rallied again to salvage the tie as Caitlin Olinski struck with less than two minutes to go to round out the scoring.

Game 2 for Thunder Bay saw them let an early lead get away as they fell 4-2 to the North Wright County Riverhawks 4-2.

Sibley Duckert and Emma Winters tallied in the defeat with Mackenzie Christie picking up an assist.

They then lost by a 4-1 score to the Centennial Cougars with Stein notching the lone marker in defeat.

Mya Gowanlock was in goal for all three games for the bantam A squad.
