BLAINE, Minn. – Thunder Bay Kings dropped two more games Sunday in Round 4 play in North American Prospects Hockey League action in Blaine, Minn.

The minor midget Kings let a one-goal lead get away as they fell 4-2 to the San Diego Jr. Gulls while the major midget side was blanked 1-0 by the Tampa Scorpions.

In the under-16 contest, the Gulls opened the scoring two and a half minutes in, but Thunder Bay rebounded with markers from Robert Tyska, at even strength, and Michael Vechio, via the power play, to put the Kings up 2-1 after one period.

Kings Go Winless in Round 4 Play

San Diego tightened up defensively after that notching the equalizer in the middle session before getting the game-winner with 2:18 left in regulation and another late into an empty net to round out the scoring.

Thunder Bay held the edge in shots on goal 27-23 with Seth McKay suffering the loss for the Kings.

The club’s final Round 4 game in NAPHL play goes Monday at 8:30 a.m. when they meet the Rocky Mountain Roughriders.

As for the major midgets, Tampa notched the game’s lone tally in 11:44 into opening stanza in what turned out to the decider.

The Scorpions outshot the Kings 17-12 with Ryan Fanti in net for Thunder Bay in defeat.

The under-18 squad will conclude Round 4 Monday at 2 p.m. when they meet the Wilkes Barre/Scranton Knights.
