BLAINE, Minn. – It was a great start for the Thunder Bay Queens in Day 1 play at the 23rd annual All-American Girls tournament being held in Blaine, Minn., as they were victorious in all three games they played.
The Tim Hortons bantam A Queens had two of those triumphs with back-to-back shutouts starting with a 1-0 decision vs. the Proctor-Hermantown Mirage followed by a 4-0 blanking of the Blaine Bengals.
Meanwhile the peewees also kept their opponents at bay as they sank the Duluth Icebreakers 13-0.
In the bantam A’s initial contest Kayla Maguire-Stein scored the game’s only goal 9:06 into the first period while Mya Gowanlock turned aside all 13 attempts she faced to register the shutout.
Game 2 saw Emma Winters notch the game-winner just 24 seconds into the match-up with the lone effort of the first period.
The middle stanza saw Thunder Bay tack on a pair of efforts provided by Sibley Duckert and another by Winters.
Sarah Grieve then rounded out the scoring in the final frame.
Caitlin Olinski dished out a pair of assists in the win.
Gowanlock picked up her second straight shutout in the victory.
The bantam’s next contest goes Saturday at 2 p.m. as they take on Elk River-Princeton.
Meanwhile, it was all Thunder Bay in the peewee opener as they rolled over Duluth.
Alexis Paddington paced the Queens offensive outburst by tallying twice and adding two assists while Gabriella Andreachhi notched a pair of markers and set-up another and Grace Grosjean scored twice.
Emma Johnston, Meggie Mallon, Rachel Johnson, Olivia Cava, Grace Cahill, Mackenzie Cambly and Reese Coffey also found the back of the net in the one-sided triumph.
Lindsay Humeniuk posted the shutout in the victory.
The peewee Queens return to the ice Saturday at 11:45 a.m. when they face-off against the Forest Lake Rangers.
