THUNDER BAY – WEATHER – Environment Canada has updated the special weather statement issued yesterday. The weather service is still calling for snow to hit the Thunder Bay District with 5-8 centimetres expected.
Special weather statement in effect for:
- City of Thunder Bay
- Sioux Lookout
- Dryden – Vermilion Bay
- Nipigon – Red Rock
- Atikokan – Fort Frances
- English River – Ignace
Around 5 to 8 cm of snow this afternoon and tonight.
Travel on the highways in the area are expected to become slippery.
The low located over Northern Lake Michigan is expected to move northeastward throughout today. Precipitation begins as rain, however it is expected to change to snow from west to east this afternoon. For areas closer to Lake Superior, the change to snow will likely occur late in the afternoon or early evening.
The snow is forecast to continue through most of the night, then taper off from north to south before Friday morning. Total snowfall amounts are expected to be in the 5 to 8 cm range, although a few locales could see up to 10 cm or so.
