THUNDER BAY – The Northwestern Ontario Associated Chambers of Commerce (NOACC) attended the announcement by Minister Michael Gravelle, of several initiatives related to the 25 year Growth Plan for Northern Ontario. Foremost amongst these was the announced funding for the Northern Public Policy Institute. “We are pleased that the new Public Policy Institute will come to fruition. It will conduct independent forward-looking research on business, economic and social issues and generate policy advice that will improve Northern Ontario’s standard of living through sound economic and social policies. It is essential for Northerners to prepare better recommendations to help us grow,” said Barry Streib, President of NOACC.
“We are excited about being engaged and involved in the discussions that will define how the institute will operate. We appreciate the tireless effort of Minister Gravelle in seeing the Growth Plan finalized”.
“The announced development of a long term strategy to create a more integrated transportation infrastructure system for air, rail, road and water is also of great benefit. NOACC believes that this is critical to maximize all of our potential opportunities such as initiatives related to the Ring of Fire.”
“NOACC looks forward to playing a significant role in the proposed economic summit to encourage business, innovation and entrepreneurship to retain, build and attract investment in the North,” added Harold Wilson, NOACC Chief Operating Officer.
North Superior Workforce Planning Board welcomes the release of the Growth Plan for Northern Ontario.
The North Superior Workforce Planning Board has worked in collaboration with community partners for the past four (4) years in creating a framework for a Northern Ontario Policy Institute. The Policy Institute Implementation Committee is proud that the Northern Growth Plan has embraced and is committed to funding this initiative.
“By Northerners, for Northerners”, this Northern Policy Institute will conduct independent, forward-looking research and help develop integrated policies to support workers, employers and communities.
