Canada Border Services AgencyTHUNDER BAY – TRAVEL – Labour Day sees many families head south for the long weekend.

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) would like to remind travellers to plan their border crossing to avoid delays at ports of entry in Eastern and Northern Ontario during the Labour Day holiday long weekend.

The CBSA recommends travellers plan their border crossing outside of peak traffic periods when possible, and to check border wait times on the CBSA’s website or on Twitter. Travellers are advised to consider the potential for delays for the following dates and times when entering Canada:

Lansdowne (Thousand Islands Bridge) port of entry (@CBSA_TIB): peak traffic volumes are anticipated on Friday, September 4 between 1 a.m. and 1 p.m., and Sunday, September 6 between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., when border wait times may exceed 30 minutes.

Border wait times are not expected to exceed more than 20 minutes for the following ports of entry during the Labour Day Holiday long weekend: Cornwall port of entry (@CBSA_CWL); Prescott port of entry (@CBSA_PCT); Sault Ste. Marie port of entry (@CBSA_SSM); Fort Frances port of entry (@CBSA_FFB); Pigeon River port of entry; or Rainy River port of entry.

Travel Tips

  1. Beat the border rush. Cross as early in the day as possible.
  2. Keep travel documents handy. Make sure that each passenger has the correct travel document. An officer will scan them.
  3. Know your purchases, know where your receipts are, and know your personal exemptions and restrictions.  Remember that all raw poultry, poultry products and by-products that are not fully cooked, including eggs and raw pet foods, originating from several states are prohibited from entering Canada until further notice. For more information on the current avian influenza outbreak, please visit the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s website at www.inspection.gc.ca.
  4. Know the contents of your vehicles.
  5. Not sure? Ask the CBSA officer or watch our travel tips video, or visit our web site.
