THUNDER BAY – WEATHER – Environment Canada reports that Heat Warnings are in effect for the region to the west of Thunder Bay. The ups and downs with the weather continue to show in the region.

The weather service has not put in place any other storm warnings, however often at this time of year the extreme heat during the day could generate thunderstorms later.

A period with daytime temperatures near 29 degrees Celsius and overnight lows near 16 degrees will continue until early Tuesday morning. Humidex values will be in the mid to high thirties today. Slightly cooler temperatures are expected Tuesday afternoon.

While extreme heat can put everyone at risk from heat illnesses, health risks are greatest for
– older adults
– infants and young children
– people with chronic illnesses such as breathing difficulties, heart conditions or psychiatric illnesses
– people who work in the heat
– people who exercise in the heat
– people without access to air conditioning and
– homeless people.

Drink plenty of liquids especially water before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration. Thirst is not a good indicator of dehydration.
