Hard Message – “Shit or Get Off the Pot from Mayor Hobbs

THUNDER BAY – NEWS – Thunder Bay Mayor Keith Hobbs has a strong message for the federal and provincial governments. That message is simple, “Shot or Get Off the Pot” when it comes to social housing and homelessness stated the Mayor in a gloves off interview with NetNewsLedger.

Despite meeting with Minister McMeekin, and despite Premier Wynne’s promise to eradicate homelessness, there are no funds for solving the problem, stated Mayor Hobbs.

The Mayor points to how the City of Medicine Hat in Alberta has, with senior levels of government support, tackled the issue of homelessness. The community of 60,000 people received $30 million to start and received annual funding to maintain its housing program.

Mayor Hobbs also shared plans for a guaranteed income plan he would like to see adopted across Canada.

The goal for the city is working to solve the issues of homelessness, the Mayor told NNL, but doing that without funds is very near impossible.

The Mayor has not given up on the Event Centre. Pointing to other communities, Moncton in particular, the Mayor notes that the federal government is supporting an event centre in that community that included a professional sports team.
