SACHIGO LAKE – Our Dream for Sachigo is a film produced by the grade 7 students from the Martin Mckay Memorial School in Sachigo Lake First Nation. The project was a fun and creative way of getting the kids to work with multi-media technology, while getting to know what people thought about their community.
The students interviewed six people for the film, including Elders, teachers and education leaders. The class developed almost thirty interview questions, and then narrowed it down to five. Some of the questions they asked are what is your favorite part of living in Sachigo Lake? What are some of the challenges that are faced in Sachigo Lake? And what is your favorite house to stay in: a teepee, a cabin or a house?
The interviews were filmed in front of a green screen, allowing the background to be replaced with student photographs taken from around the community.
The goals of this project was to introduce students to audio and video recording technology, to help students see the beauty and knowledge in their own community, and to produce a document of learning that students can be proud of.
