Whitewater Course Record Falls at Staal Open
THUNDER BAY – SPORT – The play at the Mackenzie Tour – PGA TOUR Canada Staal Foundation Open is heating up on Friday as second round action continues today. The course record at Whitewater Golf Club fell today as Swedish golfer Krister Eriksson shot the lights out with a new record 62.
Through 36 holes, Canadian Michael Gligic is leading, so far with lots of golfers out on the course. The weather is perfect for golf, with light winds, just enough to make it pleasant to play.
Gligic shot a second round 67 following up on his 64 from the first round.
“The greens are awesome out here, the greens are rolling perfect,” commented Gligic. “Thirteen under and I made 13 birdies in two days, I am feeling good.”
“It’s a long tournament, it is a marathon, not a sprint, and we are only halfway through it”.
Gligic’s plan for the rest of the day includes a little practice followed by some Netflix,.
Matt Marshall the second round co-leader is two shots back having fired in a 69 in today’s action.
The damp weather from earlier in the week has the players able to fire darts at the pin which is thrilling the gallery at the eighteenth green.

Local Thunder Bay golfers have enjoyed the play, but have not made the cut. Robbie Untinen improved greatly over his opening round. At one point today, Untinen was at -3 for the round. he struggled coming in, with a bogey on 15 and a double bogey on 18. He finished with an even par 72 for the second round.
